Creating Active Directory Users and Groups

In order to use the full benefits of Windows Active Directory, we have to configure the Windows server for Active Directory Users and Groups.

The steps are very simple and straight forward

Step 1:

Click -> Start->
Programs ->
Highlight Administrative Tools ->
Click Active Directory Domains and Trusts

This will give us the snap in as shown in the above figure (ADS snap in)

In our previous diagram, the top-most domain or dotted qualifier is known as the forest domain. In its simplest forest, a forest domain is the container of all the the domains and it is also regarded as the complete instance of active directory. It includes all the accounts, domain containers, builtins , computers etc.This dotted notation is also know as user suffix name or UN

Step 2:

Assign an alternate domain suffix by right clicking Active Directory Domains and Trusts in the upper left pane, right-click it, and then click Properties.

Step 3:

Enter your desired name and click add and click ok

It is a good practice to use Native mode rather than Mixed Mode if you are using Windows 2000 Server because Windows NT support with Windows Server 2000 is the story of the decade.

Note: The same configuration procedures are applicable to Windows Server 2003, 2008. Pick the logic and be professional to explore it by yourselves

Creating the Active Directory User(s):

Creating the User of the ADS is a necessary step for your domain controller to control the user activities, install software, new patches and updates and lots more things. Here are the easiest steps which you need to create the end users under your custody being a network administrator

3. Since the Construction OU has been on its way. Right click on it and create a new user as follows

4. You can easily move the user to any other OU; if you already have created another OU, named Engineering .You can move the user by right clicking on it and click move

5. Creating the group is as easy as creating a user. Right click on the OU of your choice and click new->group . A group has type which shows its permissions levels and it also has the scope to show its visibility to the other resources or groups.
When the group has been created.Add users to this group.
